How I got here
"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring"
~David Bowie
I have spent most of the last 25 years primarily in healthcare as a Respiratory Therapist in the Intensive Care setting. It has been a fulfilling experience and though it seems healthcare is rigid and scientific, it is also an art, which has been a blessing for my creative soul. But caring for others takes its toll over time and burnout is not uncommon.
In 2005 I took a part-time position that allowed the flexibility and time to explore. By 2010 I realized I needed more opportunity for expression and what began as an attempt to capture material for painting and drawing, became its own form of expression. In 2016 I completed a certificate in Visual Design specializing in Photography through the local university, as well as several courses with applications in Graphic Design.
During those courses, my camera was always with me, including while traveling for work. This lead to an opportunity for some paid projects, and, one opportunity took me to another and viola, my business was born.
If there is any one source of inspiration I can credit, it would the time spent in nature, on walks, hikes, and traveling, mostly alone, during challenging periods in my life. Searching for meaning and relief of life's burdens, I discovered light in dark places that feed the soul in ways that sustain and balance my need to care for others. I set out to seek the light and through the lens found a way to let my light shine.
